Lunch with Anna

Today, I had lunch with Anna Maclachlan (my ex-colleague from NRC now working for Idialia). The lunch she prepared was magnificent: peanut chicken, rice, pastry… She has a beautiful appartment in Chinatown. We talked about the last AILIA meeting and the fact that Alis was acquired. We also talked about how tough it can be to start your working life in your thirties, when everyone else has already figured out what they are and what they do. We talked about how universities are maybe too eager to train more Ph.D.s than needed. We talked about the “universities are not about job training” and “university professors could not offer job training if their lives depended on it” topics, covered elsewhere on my blog. Finally, we talked about some (secret) research we did together… more on this later…

  1. I found you changed the photo ID. I like the old one! Young and pretty. Now? A tired baddy?

  2. It’s daddy, I mean. Did you notice that this text edit panel is
too long? It was behind the right navigation bar, when I type it.
    Messy.

  3. And the system clock is not right. Where is your server? That is a question I always want to know.

  4. The server is in Atlanta so “not right” is relative, Yuhong.

I don’t know what you mean by “edit panel” too long? Maybe you hit a bug in your browser?

Yes, the old picture was a younger me, but I’ve grown older and yes, I’m now a dad. So I wanted the picture to reflect that. I’ve not just grown older, I’ve also grown in other ways… I think I’m quite a bit wiser now too. And I’m living different values.

BTW Claire likes the new picture and so does my wife… ;-)
