Consulting
Since 1998, I have regularly worked as a consultant on projects having to do with my research expertise. I am mostly interested in projects having to do with very large data sets (terabytes). From 1999 to 2001, I ran my own consulting firm full time and worked with numerous clients. From 2003 to 2005, I was a research officer at the National Research Council of Canada where part of my job description included working with industrial clients.
Here are some recent projects I worked on.
- Since October 2007, I am on the advisory board of FavQuest Inc.
- In 2006, I worked with Intalgent (Virginia, USA). (Project description under NDA.)
- inDiscover.net is a music recommender Web site I built and operated with Sean McGrath and Harold Boley in 2004. It was later licensed to Bell Canada and I stayed with the projet as a consultant in 2005.
- Waaves is a wavelet-based image compression format licensed to the National Radiology Server in France: I was the architect of the format. The product was nominated for an IST prize.
My academic c.v. (pdf) is available. As of September 2006, I charge a flat fee of US$150 per hour.
What I do:
- give advice on scientific issues;
- review proposals and technology;
- make proposals and produce reports.
What I do not do:
- run software development projects;
- travel or spend a lot of time on the phone.
The best way to contact me is by email. I work in Montreal, Canada.
